Rancho Viejo, Quintana Roo — After more than two decades of waiting, students at a primary school in Rancho Viejo finally have a covered dome that will improve their educational conditions.
Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa inaugurated the long-requested structure at Enrique Estrella Oxte Primary School, benefiting nearly 1,000 students across both morning and afternoon sessions.
During the ceremony, the governor said the new space addresses a historical debt to the children of Rancho Viejo, who for years held civic, cultural, and sports activities outdoors.
She emphasized that the completed, functional dome is designed to ensure safety and dignity for the school community.
The Public Works Department built the dome as part of a state strategy to reduce inequality gaps in public schools. The school, founded in 2001, has the highest enrollment in the mainland area of Isla Mujeres municipality and is a local educational reference.
Dome Features and Investment
- Investment exceeding 3.3 million pesos
- Covered space for academic, civic, and sports activities
- Protection from sun and rain
- Direct benefit for nearly 1,000 students
- Complementary sports equipment
State and municipal authorities agreed that the project strengthens the school environment and promotes the comprehensive development of children in Rancho Viejo by providing adequate spaces for interaction and learning.
