Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Quintana Roo has recorded 128 measles cases in 2026, averaging 1.5 infections daily despite ongoing vaccination campaigns, according to federal health data.
The state’s Health Department confirmed the statistics through Mexico’s Daily Measles Report 2026, which shows Quintana Roo now ranks tenth nationally for infections. The disease continues to spread despite immunization efforts, with 11 new cases reported between March 25 and 26 alone.
Health authorities have focused vaccination campaigns in Cancún, Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, and Chetumal, where most cases have been recorded. The state aims to administer 376,000 vaccine doses, while the IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute) plans to distribute over 200,000 additional doses. Both programs have surpassed 50% of their targets.
Officials have not confirmed whether they met their goal of vaccinating students at 111 elementary schools before Easter break began last Friday. No measles-related deaths have been reported in Quintana Roo.
Nationally, Mexico has recorded 8,145 measles cases and eight deaths across seven states. Jalisco leads with 4,735 cases, followed by Chiapas with 681 and Mexico City with 638.
Health authorities emphasize that vaccination remains crucial for vulnerable groups, particularly children aged six months to nine years and adults up to 49 years old with incomplete immunization records.
Quintana Roo’s tourism industry creates additional transmission risks, as the state previously had minimal measles incidence with just two cases before climbing to its current position.
