$2M Reward for Fugitive Cancún Psychiatrist – Help Find Him

Cancún, Mexico — The Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) announced Friday that it has doubled the reward to two million pesos for information leading to the location and capture of Edgar Landeros Galicia, a psychiatrist accused of sexually abusing a patient.

Increased Reward for Fugitive Psychiatrist

Through its official channels, the FGE urged the public to collaborate with any information regarding the whereabouts of Landeros Galicia, who has been a fugitive since April 2023. A dedicated hotline, 998 221 7474, has been established for confidential tips.

From Respected Professional to Fugitive

On his LinkedIn profile, Landeros Galicia identifies himself as a surgeon with dual specializations in adult psychiatry and child-adolescent psychiatry (Paidopsychiatry). However, his career came under scrutiny following sexual abuse allegations filed by one of his patients, sparking widespread criticism from feminist groups.

The case drew controversy after Judge Manuela Leticia Ramírez y Montero ruled that there was insufficient evidence to detain him, allowing Landeros Galicia to remain free during judicial proceedings. The feminist collective Marea Verde condemned the decision, alleging judicial negligence.

Judicial Oversight Under Scrutiny

Marea Verde and other advocacy groups have repeatedly denounced irregularities in the handling of the case. On social media, they accused Judge Ramírez y Montero of acting in a "corrupt, negligent, and indifferent manner" by releasing the psychiatrist despite evidence presented by prosecutors.

In response to public pressure, the initial reward of 500,000 pesos was raised to one million pesos in February 2024. With no progress in the case, the FGE has now doubled the amount to two million pesos.

Concerns Over Potential Additional Victims

Activists have warned that there may be more victims who have not come forward due to fear or vulnerability. They allege that Landeros Galicia engaged in psychological abuse, overmedication, and treated minors or emotionally vulnerable women.
