Mexico City — The Attorney General's Office of Quintana Roo is facing allegations of irregularities in the criminal proceedings against Héctor Martínez, a former executive of the shipping company Ultramar, who was detained on October 15 in Cancún.

Martínez was arrested by elements of the state Secretary of Security while traveling on Avenida Cobá with two companions, Everardo and Iván "N", after leaving a café. According to the police report, officers stopped the vehicle for "suspicious attitude" and, during a search, claimed to have found ten bags of marijuana and usable cartridges. All three individuals were placed at the disposal of the Attorney General's Office and presented before a control judge.

Days later, the Prosecutor's Office announced that it had executed an arrest warrant against Martínez for the crime of extortion, stemming from a complaint filed on the same day as his detention by a member of Ultramar. The company is currently experiencing an internal conflict among family members over corporate control.

The defense team for the former executive reported that, starting November 3, the Prosecutor's Office disseminated sensitive information about Martínez, including images of luxury vehicles that were allegedly his. It was subsequently proven that these photographs were false, generating criticism from specialists and human rights defenders.

"The leak violates the presumption of innocence and jeopardizes Héctor's integrity within the prison, as well as the safety of his family, by exposing him publicly in a context dominated by organized crime," stated his legal team.

Furthermore, they characterized the actions of the Prosecutor's Office as "irresponsible and dangerous," accusing it of a lack of institutional ethics for exhibiting detainees under unsubstantiated accusations, in an environment marked by growing violence in the state.
