Quintana Roo Offers Free Mammograms Across Three Municipalities This Week

A mobile medical unit offering free mammograms in Quintana Roo, Mexico

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo government has launched a free mammogram campaign across three municipalities this week, aiming to improve early detection of breast cancer through mobile medical units.

The initiative, part of the state’s “Cuidar de ti es Bienestar” (Caring for You is Well-being) program, will provide no-cost screenings from April 6 to 10 in Playa del Carmen, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, and Chetumal. The campaign is organized by the Quintana Roo Secretariat of Well-being through its Network of Well-being Units.

Schedule and Locations

The mobile unit will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily at the following locations:

  • Playa del Carmen (Solidaridad municipality): April 6 at Colonia Nuevo Noh Bec; April 7 at Tercer Parque, Villas del Sol
  • Felipe Carrillo Puerto: April 8 at Domo de la colonia Cecilio Chi
  • Othón P. Blanco (Chetumal): April 9 at Colonia Forjadores; April 10 at the Judicial Power building

Officials recommend arriving early as daily capacity is limited.

Eligibility and Requirements

The campaign targets women aged 40 to 69 who are residents of the municipalities or nearby areas and have not had a recent mammogram. To receive the free service, participants must present:

  • A copy of a valid official ID (INE)
  • A copy of their updated CURP (Unique Population Registry Code)

Medical recommendations for the procedure include avoiding deodorant, cream, powder, or perfume on the day of the mammogram and wearing comfortable two-piece clothing to facilitate the examination.

The state aims to perform 11,500 mammograms across 11 municipalities as part of this broader initiative, which seeks to increase access to early diagnosis and improve treatment outcomes for breast cancer, one of the leading causes of death among women in Mexico.
