Querétaro, Mexico — Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama joined President Claudia Sheinbaum and other national leaders on Tuesday for ceremonies marking the 109th anniversary of Mexico’s Constitution signing at the historic Teatro de la República.

The event brought together representatives from all three branches of government, state governors, and civil and military authorities to reaffirm the continuing relevance of Mexico’s constitutional principles.

Historic Female Leadership

The ceremony gained particular significance as three women currently lead Mexico’s executive and legislative branches: President Claudia Sheinbaum, Chamber of Deputies President Kenia López Rabadán, and Senate President Laura Itzel Castillo. Observers noted this reflects the country’s progress toward gender equality in political participation.

Governor Lezama emphasized the Constitution’s anniversary as a key date for remembering the Mexican people’s historical struggle to defend their rights, freedoms, and social guarantees.

“The Constitution established the foundation for a state that recognizes labor, agrarian, and social rights,” Lezama said, noting its international reputation for progressive vision and focus on social justice.

Social Focus of Constitution

In her address, President Sheinbaum reviewed recent constitutional reforms aimed at restoring the document’s social purpose, strengthening national sovereignty, and guaranteeing fundamental rights for Mexicans.

“Mexico does not bend, does not kneel, and does not sell itself,” Sheinbaum declared, reaffirming her government’s commitment to defending national sovereignty and strict respect for constitutional principles.

She stated that the Fourth Transformation movement has reclaimed the essence of the 1917 constitutional project, placing social justice, combating inequality, and population welfare at its center.

State Support for National Project

Governor Lezama reiterated Quintana Roo’s support for the national project led by President Sheinbaum, pledging continued coordination with the federal government to uphold constitutional rights and ensure public welfare.

“Public policies implemented in Quintana Roo align with constitutional values of social justice, equality, and human-focused development,” Lezama said, “prioritizing those most in need.”

Other attendees included Querétaro Governor Mauricio Kuri González, Supreme Court Justice Hugo Aguilar Ortiz, federal cabinet members, legislators, and representatives from various government levels.

The ceremony highlighted the Teatro de la República’s significance as the emblematic location where the 1917 Constitution was signed, establishing Mexico’s modern constitutional state.
