Quintana Roo Dairy Farmers to Supply New Campeche Milk Pasteurization Plant

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — More than 300 dairy farmers in Quintana Roo will supply milk to a new pasteurization plant in neighboring Campeche, improving production and distribution across southeastern Mexico, officials announced.

Luis Santiago Tenorio Cardona, the Quintana Roo delegate for the federal Leche para el Bienestar (Milk for Well-being) program, said the arrangement will help address regional distribution challenges. The federal program currently operates only 10 plants in central and northern Mexico, leading to higher costs and longer shipping times for southern states.

The new Campeche facility will collect raw milk from Quintana Roo farmers, process it, and redistribute it throughout the region. The plant is scheduled to open in March, with milk collection from Quintana Roo expected to begin in April or May.

To facilitate the supply chain, authorities will open a milk collection center at the former rice mill on the road to Francisco Villa in Othón P. Blanco municipality. Farmers from areas including Río Verde, Vallehermoso, and Nicolás Bravo will deliver their milk there.

The initial goal is to collect approximately 10,000 liters of milk every three days for shipment to Campeche.

“Campeche has four collection centers and will open about 100 dairy hubs,” Tenorio Cardona added.

The delegate noted that the pasteurization plant will also benefit other states near Campeche and supports the program’s focus on national food security and sovereignty.
