“Quintana Roo’s Glamorous 2024 Miss Granny & Mr. Grandpa Pageant”

In a joyful and emotional event, Amparo Buenfil from Bacalar and Tito Caamal from Cozumel were crowned as the winners of the Miss Granny and Mr. Grandpa Quintana Roo 2024 Pageant. The pageant was part of the National Day of Older Adults celebration, organized by the DIF Quintana Roo system, led by its honorary president, Verónica Lezama Espinosa.

The pageant took place at the Serapio Flota Mass sports dome. Representatives from various municipalities including Cozumel, José María Mórelos, Solidaridad, Othón P. Blanco, Tulum, Benito Juárez, Isla Mujeres, and the host municipality, Bacalar, participated in the event. The contestants, accompanied by their families and friends, competed in categories such as charisma, traditional costume, evening dress, and a question session, which were evaluated by a panel of judges.

Amparo Buenfil Rodríguez from Bacalar and Tito Caamal Castro from Cozumel were crowned as the winners of the Miss Granny and Mr. Grandpa Quintana Roo 2024 Pageant by the Honorary President of the DIF, Verónica Lezama Espinosa, and the Municipal President, José Alfredo Contreras Méndez.

Second-place winners were Silvia Pech from Cozumel and Fidel Ávila from Solidaridad, while the third position went to María Rojo from Othón P. Blanco and Pedro Jiménez from Tulum.

Verónica Lezama, the Honorary President of DIF Quintana Roo, emphasized the importance of older adults in strengthening family unity. She expressed her happiness in seeing older people enjoying themselves through healthy social interactions.

The municipal president of Bacalar, José Alfredo Contreras, highlighted the dignified treatment that older adults receive through the State DIF and the municipal DIFs to improve their quality of life. These activities are part of the New Agreement for Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa to repair social fabric and improve the quality of life of older people.

All contestants received recognition for their participation in this pageant and enjoyed the participation of the Danzonera Orchestra from Bacalar. The event was attended by various dignitaries and directors from participating municipalities who expressed that the celebration strengthens the value of older adults and recognizes their experience, warmth, and love.
