Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office released a video showing five men arrested on drug charges in the municipalities of Benito Juárez and Playa del Carmen, who authorities say may be connected to recent vehicle burnings in the area.
The video, made public on Tuesday, shows only the faces and names of the detained individuals without providing further details about the circumstances of their arrests.
According to the official footage, authorities arrested Alfonso “N,” Isaac Guadalupe “N,” Benito “N,” and Juan Carlos “N” in Benito Juárez, while José Antonio “N” was detained in Playa del Carmen.
The lack of additional information from officials has sparked speculation on social media, where users have circulated claims that the detainees might be connected to vehicle burnings reported last Sunday in Playa del Carmen and Benito Juárez.
These violent incidents occurred following the killing of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho,” the identified leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in Jalisco state. His death triggered unrest in various regions across Mexico.
The Prosecutor’s Office has not officially confirmed any connection between the five individuals arrested for drug trafficking and the vehicle fires. Authorities say they expect to release more information in the coming hours to clarify the context of the detentions.
