Santiago, Chile — Following a nail-biting final decided by a single arrow, parathlete Lya Daniela Sánchez Tadeo from Quintana Roo secured a silver medal for Mexico in the Compound Bow U21 event within the Parathlon with Bow discipline of the 2025 Parapan American Youth Games, held at the Peñalolén Ecopark in Santiago, Chile.

A Final Decided by a Single Point

The athlete, who is originally from Playa del Carmen and a recent winner of the 2025 State Sports Award in the Adapted Sports category, Lya was featured in a thrilling final against Colombia's Ariana Correa Acosta. Both competitors demonstrated great precision, concluding the rounds with a 138-138 tie, which forced the gold medal to be decided by a single tie-breaking arrow.

By a margin of just one point, the Colombian athlete scored 10 units and the Mexican scored 9, resulting in the silver medal for Sánchez Tadeo.

During her notable participation in the continental games, the athlete, who is coached by Professor Hilda Martell, authoritatively defeated Mikayla Brown of Jamaica in the quarter-finals and overcame Carla Verónica Candia Santander of Chile in the semi-finals, before competing in the intense gold medal final.

Sánchez Tadeo's achievement reaffirms the commitment of the Government of Quintana Roo to the promotion of adapted sports. Through the sports scholarship program of the State Sports Commission (CODEQ), led by Jacobo Arzate Hop, specific support is provided to athletes so they can achieve their goals, as part of the actions of the New Agreement for Well-being and Development promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.

With this medal, the Quintana Roo representative adds a new success for the Mexican delegation, which continues to stand out for its performance at the 2025 Parapan American Youth Games in Chile, solidifying the state as a sporting power in the adapted and youth arenas.
