Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz announced the 21st edition of the open water marathon “La Ruta del Arrecife,” set to draw 850 swimmers to this coastal town later this month.

The event will take place on February 21 and 22 at Ventana al Mar, one of the municipality’s most iconic natural settings. Competitors will race distances ranging from 250 meters to 10 kilometers.

Mayor Tziu Muñoz emphasized that the marathon serves as a qualifier for both the 2026 National Open Water Championship and the Open Water Swimming Qualifier in Aruba 2026, bolstering Puerto Morelos’ standing on the national and international sports calendar.

“Puerto Morelos continues to establish itself as a top-tier sports destination,” the mayor stated.

The competition will have support from the Port Authority and fishing cooperatives to ensure participant safety, along with measures to protect the marine environment during the event.
