Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — The restaurant sector in Puerto Morelos recorded solid 15% growth at the close of the first quarter of 2026.
With this uptick, the municipality now has more than 200 active establishments between the old town center and the Zetina Gasca neighborhood, according to Armando Cruz, president of the local Canirac restaurant association.
This dynamism has allowed the destination to diversify its culinary offerings, which now range from traditional Yucatan Peninsula cuisine to international, Mediterranean, and vegan alternatives for visitors.
Easter Week Success Driven by Domestic Tourism
During the Easter Week holidays, Puerto Morelos restaurants reached occupancy levels between 70 and 80 percent.
Cruz noted that this favorable performance was driven primarily by domestic tourism, which concentrated its spending in beach areas and the old town center.
The strategy of hosting cultural events and artisan fairs on weekends has been key to encouraging tourists to leave their hotels and explore the local economy.
Challenges and Upcoming Events: Beer Festival
Despite positive numbers, the industry acknowledges facing significant competitiveness challenges and maintaining quality standards to retain customers.
As part of promotional strategies, officials announced the upcoming Beer Festival at Ventana al Mar park. This event will feature:
- Participation from 10 local restaurants
- 25 craft breweries from across the country
- High tourist attendance expected for the month’s end
