Puerto Morelos Mayor Opens Café, Promotes Local Economy

Puerto Morelos Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz speaking at the inauguration of Little Boba café

Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — Puerto Morelos Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz inaugurated the “Little Boba” café and called for supporting young people venturing into commerce and business.

Mayor Tziu Muñoz highlighted that the Young Entrepreneur program has become a fundamental tool for the development of Puerto Morelos youth, providing support, spaces, and opportunities that have allowed more young people to turn their ideas into real projects.

Currently, this program includes 60 young people who have developed their ventures and participate regularly in events promoted by the municipality.

In this context, she celebrated that the “Little Boba” café is an example of the positive impact of this program by taking the step toward formalizing a business.

“That a youth venture evolves to open its own establishment is excellent news for the community. It shows that when there is support, young people can indeed transform their future and contribute to the municipality’s economic growth,” she stated.

Blanca Merari emphasized that the municipal seat is experiencing growth in its gastronomic and commercial offerings.

“The gastronomic variety is growing right here, not just in the tourist zone, and that demonstrates that Puerto Morelos is advancing. We are bringing products in high demand to the entire community and generating more alternatives for families,” she noted.

The Mayor recalled that this push for local consumption is complemented by other programs that strengthen different sectors of the community economy.

Among them, she mentioned: the Wellbeing Market, which directly supports local farmers and artisans by offering them spaces to sell their products; as well as Women Entrepreneurs, dedicated to women seeking to generate additional income to strengthen the family economy; and the Artisan Pavilion, where products made by local hands are exhibited and sold; among other programs.

She indicated that these initiatives, together with Young Entrepreneur, form a comprehensive support network that boosts producers, women entrepreneurs, artisans, and young people so they can position their products and services in the community.

She added that consuming locally is a direct way to strengthen this economic chain. “When we choose to buy here, the money stays with our families, our businesses, and our producers. That helps us grow together and strengthen employment in Puerto Morelos,” she said.

She also highlighted that local products are often fresher and produced without pesticides or insecticides, which represents a benefit for health and the environment.

Little Boba, located on Caoba Street, offers tapioca drinks, matcha, and a variety of options that add to the municipality’s growing gastronomic offerings.

Fernando Mendoza and his wife Diana Grapay, owners of the establishment, shared that their business began four years ago with home deliveries.

“Later we were invited to join Young Entrepreneur and the municipality began inviting us to events like carnivals and fairs. The next step was establishing ourselves with a storefront,” recalled Fernando, thanking the program’s support and the loyalty of their customers.

For his part, Ernesto León Villanueva García, director of the Youth Institute, wished success to the young entrepreneurs and reiterated that the department maintains as a priority providing permanent support to those starting their own projects, in line with the municipal vision of promoting new businesses.

The establishment will initially operate from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., with plans to extend its hours in the mornings.
