PUERTO MORELOS, Mexico — The traditional Halloween Festival 2025 filled Avenida Javier Rojo Gómez in the Casco Antiguo with color, creativity, and fun this afternoon. The parade featured vampires, monks and nuns, diabolical clowns, skeletons, witches, zombies, and iconic characters from horror films.

The event was organized by the Secretary of Economic Development and Regulatory Improvement, in coordination with the Municipal Institute of Youth and the Secretary of Sustainable Tourism. Its objective was to foster social participation, strengthen healthy community coexistence, and promote creativity among the community.

Municipal President Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz highlighted that this type of celebration allows North American visitors to feel at home while also learning about local traditions.

"During these dates, they can appreciate how Mexicans remember and honor our deceased, but also participate in festivities that are familiar to them, which strengthens cultural exchange," she stated.

Furthermore, she emphasized that those visiting the destination have the opportunity to learn about the particularities of Janal Pixán, an ancestral celebration inherited from the Maya. This celebration forms an essential part of the cultural identity of Quintana Roo and is distinguished by the preparation of traditional foods that are placed on altars as offerings.

Festival Events and Activities

The festival began with a parade of girls, boys, youth, and adults in costume, which started from the facilities of the Municipal DIF on Avenida Javier Rojo Gómez. During the journey towards the Parque Fundadores, the children received candies and sweets from restaurants located along the route.

Once at the park, the municipal president personally handed out "terror sweets" at one of the stands installed at the site.

A costume contest was subsequently held, in which 26 minors participated.

The festival concluded with a fun mascot show, which made the youngest children laugh and dance.

It is worth noting that, as every weekend, young entrepreneurs and artisans installed their stalls in the external area of the park, where they exhibited and sold their products.

Officials in Attendance

At the event, Municipal President Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz was accompanied by the head of the Secretary of Economic Development and Regulatory Improvement, Elena Gutiérrez Briceño; the head of Ecology, Animal Welfare, and Sustainable Development, Aimée Regina Rodríguez Vivas; and the head of Sustainable Tourism, Raúl Guadarrama García.

Also in attendance were the head of the Internal Control Body, Leticia Ramírez Cetina, and the director of the Municipal DIF, Vanessa López Páez, among other public servants.
