Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — Local authorities have launched a major security operation for the 2026 Easter holiday period, deploying more than 170 personnel to safeguard thousands of visitors and residents in this popular tourist destination.
Municipal officials, led by Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz, initiated the operation with a formal ceremony. The town’s general secretary, José de Jesús Espinosa Payán, represented the mayor and emphasized the importance of this period for tourism while highlighting enhanced prevention and security efforts.
“Today we launch the 2026 holiday operation in Puerto Morelos. This represents one of the most significant times of the year, when we welcome thousands of visitors who choose this destination for its natural beauty, warmth, and hospitality,” Espinosa Payán said. “This operation results from coordinated work between institutions to protect the safety of those who visit us and everyone traveling through our streets, beaches, and highways.”
He stressed that timely prevention and shared responsibility are fundamental pillars for achieving a safe outcome and acknowledged the work of security forces, civil protection, firefighters, health personnel, and volunteers who will maintain constant vigilance.
Antonio Domínguez Olán, director of municipal Civil Protection, noted that this operation marks the formal start of one of the community’s most important celebrations, blending tradition, faith, and social interaction. He reaffirmed the commitment of municipal authorities, in coordination with state and federal agencies, to protect residents and visitors.
“Citizen participation is essential for the orderly and safe development of these celebrations, which we hope will take place in an atmosphere of harmony, respect, and with preventive measures,” Domínguez Olán said.
