Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — The Puerto Morelos Carnival 2026 concluded with over 16,000 attendees across three days of festivities, marking one of the most well-attended and family-friendly celebrations in the municipality’s history. The event, themed “To the Rhythm of History and Tradition,” featured parades, costume contests, and a closing concert by reggaeton artist El Bogueto.
The final day included a traditional parade of floats along Avenida Zetina Gasca, where 24 floats from contestants, municipal departments, and a car club showcased marine and Mayan themes. Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz led the procession on a float highlighting the Caribbean sea’s beauty, followed by a float featuring the Leaning Lighthouse, symbolizing the resilience of Puerto Morelos residents during the municipality’s 10th anniversary.
At the Nicolás Zurdo Estrella baseball field in the Pescadores neighborhood, a costume contest displayed community creativity. Winners included:
- Children’s Category: First place to Milka Saraí Herrera Herrera as “The Jewel of the Caribbean”; second to Camila Gil Reyes as “The Queen Bee”; third to Sofía Yáñez Povedano as “The Goddess of Time.”
- Youth Category: First place to Jimena Potenciano Sabalza as “Queen of Live Coral.”
- Adult Category: First place to Erick Felipe Herrera as “The Guardian of the Reef”; second to Carlos Enrique Povedano Concha as “The Carnival Jellyfish”; third to Claudia Angélica Pacheco Cifuentes as “The Goddess of the Sea.”
Floats “Marine Fauna” and “Marine Joy” also received awards, presented by municipal authorities, councilors, representatives from the Institute of Culture and Arts, and judges.
The celebration ended with the symbolic burning of Juan Carnaval, followed by a concert where El Bogueto performed for over 2,000 people. Earlier acts included Puerto Rican talent Joel HLJ and Jeydi TQM. Carnival royalty, including child kings Stephany Sofía and Juan Dariel, Corazón de Oro kings Ana Paulette and Omar Teodoro, senior emperors Martha Emma and José Guadalupe, youth queen Karemi Ziovanna, diversity king Uriel, and official sovereigns Indira and Víctor, attended the closing.
Authorities reported no incidents during the carnival, crediting coordination among 98 personnel from municipal departments, Civil Protection, Citizen Security, firefighters, and the Mexican Navy for ensuring safe spaces. Mayor Blanca Merari stated the event sets a precedent for positioning Puerto Morelos as a venue for national and international spectacles, following past successes with acts like Los Ángeles Azules and Wendy Guevara.
“It’s a great celebration that not only leaves us with joy and community but also significant local economic activation,” the mayor said, thanking local families and visitors and reaffirming her commitment to promoting events that strengthen culture, tourism, and social cohesion.
