Puerto Morelos Invests 2.5M Pesos in Public Parks

Children playing on new playground equipment in Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — “In Puerto Morelos, we continue advancing in the construction of our future with programs like the equipment of sports and recreational spaces, in which nearly 2.5 million pesos from the Trust for the Administration of the Environmental Sanitation Right were spent,” said Municipal President Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz today.

While inaugurating these works at the Founders Park in the Old Town, she highlighted the importance of having dignified, beautiful, and functional public spaces, as they are meeting points that promote happiness and coexistence, especially for children who enjoy the playgrounds.

“Nothing compares to the smile of a girl or a boy, nor with the joy of mothers and fathers. All of this also contributes to strengthening the social fabric, because it fosters playful and recreational activities that help prevent vices or harmful behaviors,” she expressed.

The Municipal President assured that in the Old Town, which already has a renewed fishermen’s pier, the Window to the Sea, and main avenues, inaugurations will continue, as it is an emblematic area for the development and economic spillover of Puerto Morelos. It is the point where thousands of national and foreign tourists converge each year and where the local community gathers to socialize and enjoy.

“Playgrounds were also installed in the Central Park of the Zetina Gasca neighborhood and in Villas La Playa, where we are unveiling swings, spinners, handrails, and very complete, integral structures, but above all beautiful and safe, for healthy fun,” stated Blanca Merari.

Likewise, she explained that many people had requested the renewal of the playgrounds, as the previous ones, after five years of use, showed considerable wear. “That is why we decided to make this important investment of 2,493,579 pesos, resources from the Environmental Sanitation Trust,” she expressed.

For his part, Mario Salinas Castro, Secretary of Public Works, commented that public spaces fulfill a key function in community coexistence and in the preservation of local identity.

“This project contributes to the strategic objective of promoting an orderly and sustainable urban development, strengthening the social fabric, and improving public infrastructure within the locality,” he affirmed.

The Old Town park, he added, responds directly to the need for more recreational and sports spaces that promote physical activity, leisure, and social integration in a safe and accessible environment for residents of all ages.

At the event, the Municipal President was accompanied by Karen Alejandra Román Flores, Technical Secretary for the Construction of Peace and Security; Ian Emanuel Estrada Estrada, member of the Municipal Youth Council; the children Lizandro Villegas Martínez, child councilor; Michael Barrera Olvera; and the little boy Víctor, who insistently requested these playgrounds from the municipal authority.
