Mexico City — During her press conference on Wednesday, President Claudia Sheinbaum addressed the incident of sexual harassment she experienced while speaking with citizens outside the National Palace.

Sheinbaum Pardo recounted that she did not immediately realize the man's intentions, but after seeing the images circulating online, she became aware of the gravity of the situation. The president confirmed she will file a formal complaint against the individual, stating that her government will not permit any type of violence against women. She also affirmed that an investigation is underway to determine if the crime of sexual harassment is penalized in all of Mexico's states and confirmed she is not ruling out a legal reform to protect citizens from this type of situation.

Suspect Apprehended

On Tuesday, November 4, the detention of Uriel "N" was achieved. The man is accused of harassing President Claudia Sheinbaum on Tuesday while she was speaking with citizens on a street in the historic center of Mexico City.

A video disseminated on social media shows Sheinbaum conversing with several people on a street near the government palace when a man, apparently intoxicated, approaches her from behind and begins to touch her. Shortly afterward, an official managed to separate the subject.

For her part, the Head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada Molina, expressed solidarity with the president. In a post on her X account, she dedicated a letter to all women who have experienced a situation that violates their autonomy and, finally, promised justice for the citizenry.
