Cancun, Q. Roo. — During her visit to Cancun on Sunday, September 21, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, announced the construction of a new Rosario Castellanos University in Quintana Roo, in addition to confirming major projects such as the Costa Mujeres boulevard and new medical infrastructure.
The President made the announcements as part of a nationwide tour to report to the Mexican people. She addressed a crowd of just over 5,000 attendees at the Tajamar Malecón in Cancun.
"Here in Benito Juárez we are going to build a new Rosario Castellanos University for the youth, the General Hospital in Chetumal which will be completed in 2025, the one we are building in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, the ISSSTE family unit in Playa del Carmen, the replacement of the ISSSTE facility in Chetumal, the rehabilitation of regional hospital number 17 in Cancun, and the Health Routes program, where medicines are already arriving at the health centers," Sheinbaum stated.
At the event, the President was accompanied by the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Isela Rodríguez Velázquez; the Secretary of Welfare, Ariadna Montiel Reyes; the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport, Jesús Esteva Medina; the Secretary of Labor, Marath Baruch Bolaños López; the head of Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development, Edna Vega Rangel; and the head of Technology, Science, and Innovation, Rosaura Ruiz Gutiérrez, among others.
In that setting, the President reported that pensions are now being provided in Quintana Roo to 31,800 women aged 60 to 64. She also announced that indigenous communities will receive a direct budget for social infrastructure, managed by a treasurer.
Furthermore, there will be an additional 30,070 beneficiaries of welfare programs in Quintana Roo, representing an annual investment of 8,993 million pesos.
Regarding infrastructure, she reported that the Tren Maya loading station in Cancun is already under construction, as are stations in other states, to improve distribution in the southeast.
A total of 48,584 homes are also being built in Quintana Roo for low-income families. Additionally, Infonavit and Fovissste debts are being reduced for 25,000 families, and property titles are being delivered free of charge.
For her part, Governor Mara Lezama highlighted the end of neoliberalism with the arrival of the Fourth Transformation and the humanism that characterizes the new government of President Claudia Sheinbaum.
"Dear President, today it is clear to Mexico and the entire world that our country collaborates. Yes, it collaborates, but it does not submit; we are a free and sovereign nation, and in this international scenario, our presence has set an example worldwide," Lezama said.
