Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Premier Padel P2 Cancun 2026 tournament reached its midpoint on Thursday, with defending champions and top seeds advancing to the quarterfinals in both men’s and women’s divisions at the Rafael Nadal Center in Costa Mujeres.
Defending champions Gemma Triay of Spain and Delfina Brea of Argentina secured their spot in the women’s quarterfinals with a straight-sets victory over Spain’s Jessica Castello and Lorena Rufo, winning 6-2, 6-2. In the men’s division, last year’s winners Juan Lebrón of Spain and Leandro Augsburger of Argentina advanced by defeating Javier Ruiz and Gonzalo Rubio, both from Spain, 6-4, 6-2.
Morning Session
The day began with four women’s matches. Third-seeded Ariana Sánchez and Andrea Austero, both from Spain, and eighth-seeded Marina Guinart and Verónica Virseda, also from Spain, moved on to the quarterfinals. However, fifth-seeded Tamara Icardo of Spain and Claudia Jensen of Argentina fell in three sets to Spain’s Nuria Rodríguez and Italy’s Giulia Dal Pozo, 6-7, 6-3, 3-6.
Second-seeded Paula Josémaría and Beatriz González, both from Spain, had a tougher match, overcoming compatriots Beatriz Caldera and Carmen Goenaga in three sets: 3-6, 6-0, 7-6. Other seeded pairs advancing included fourth-seeded Claudia Fernández of Spain and Sofía Araujo of Portugal, sixth-seeded Marta Ortega and Martina Calvo of Spain, and seventh-seeded Alejandra Salazar and Alejandra Alonso of Spain.
Afternoon Session
In the men’s matches, Argentina’s Carlos Gutiérrez and Gustavo Alfonso upset eighth-seeded Javier Garrido of Spain and Lucas Bergamini of Brazil. Top-seeded Agustín Tapia of Argentina and Arturo Coello of Spain were leading their match against qualifiers Pablo Lijó of Spain and Maximiliano Arce of Argentina 3-6, 6-2, 2-3 at press time.
Other results saw second-seeded Alejandro Galán of Spain and Federico Chingotto of Argentina defeat Javier García and Javier Barahona, both from Spain, 6-2, 6-4. Third-seeded Miguel Yanguas of Spain and Franco Stupacsuk of Argentina beat Eduardo Alonso of Spain and Juan Tello of Argentina 6-3, 6-3. Guillermo Collado and Pol Hernández, both from Spain, won against Alejandro Ruiz and Juanlu Esbri, also from Spain, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Leonel Aguirre and Alejandro Arroyo, both from Argentina, defeated sixth-seeded Francisco Navarro and Francisco Guerrero of Spain 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Brazil’s Lucas Campagnolo and Jairo Bautista advanced over qualifiers Enrique Goenaga and Aimar Goñi, both from Spain, 7-6, 7-6.
Quarterfinal matches in both divisions are scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20.
