Cancun, Quintana Roo — State prosecutors returned to a home in Cancun’s Supermanzana 95 neighborhood on Thursday to conduct a new search, a day after five skulls and other human remains were discovered at the property.
Officers from the State Prosecutor’s Office, assisted by the Municipal Police’s Missing Persons Unit, carried out the follow-up investigation, according to unofficial sources.
The search complements work done early Wednesday, when authorities found five skulls, assorted bones, and identification documents belonging to several individuals inside the home.
The Prosecutor’s Office has not released an official statement on the case. However, sources said the investigation is linked to the discovery of a woman’s body in the Colonia Mexico neighborhood. The woman was allegedly killed and found 13 days after she was reported missing.
The investigation led to the arrest of two people, including a man who is believed to have been the victim’s partner. Authorities then located the home on Calle 108 in Supermanzana 95, where searches continue.
During Thursday’s operation, relatives of one of the detainees arrived at the property and claimed the skulls and bones were theatrical props, saying the suspect works with items related to the Yoruba religion. Authorities have not confirmed this version.
