Cancún, Mexico — A municipal police patrol car was severely damaged in a collision with a private vehicle early Wednesday morning on Huayacán Avenue, authorities reported. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Police officers from the Municipal Transit Directorate received the accident report around 1:30 a.m. near the La Palapa del Jarocho restaurant, which was closed at the time.
Initial reports indicate the driver of a red Mazda CX-30 was in the right lane and attempted to change lanes to the left when the patrol car, traveling in that lane, struck the vehicle.
The impact caused the patrol car, unit 5022, to veer into the median area where it collided with a public lighting pole, knocking it from its base. The Mazda was propelled to the right and crashed into part of the restaurant’s structure.
