Cancún, Mexico — A municipal police officer directing traffic in Cancún’s Hotel Zone was struck by a vehicle after the driver ignored an order to stop. The incident occurred on Boulevard Kukulcán at kilometer 6, where the officer had instructed the driver, identified as Jazer Abdiel, to turn around due to traveling in the wrong direction.
Aggressive Driver Flees Before Arrest
Instead of complying, Abdiel allegedly accelerated his gray Jetta, hitting the officer and causing visible injuries. Witnesses reported that the driver shouted insults and displayed violent behavior before fleeing the scene. Officers from the Tourist and Transit Police quickly responded to emergency radio calls, deploying multiple patrol units to intercept the vehicle.
The suspect was apprehended shortly afterward without further incident. Paramedics treated the injured officer at the scene before transporting him to a hospital for further evaluation. Authorities confirmed his condition as stable but under observation.
Charges Filed Amid Public Outrage
Abdiel now faces charges for injuries to a public servant and endangering public safety in a high-traffic tourist area. Witnesses, including local service providers, corroborated the driver’s aggressive conduct, noting he also attempted to intimidate bystanders who recorded the incident or aided the officer.
The case has sparked widespread condemnation on social media, with calls for strict legal consequences. Investigators have compiled an official case file as the judicial process proceeds.
