Cancún, Quintana Roo — An unusual incident involving State Police officers caused traffic chaos on Tuesday afternoon at the entrance to the irregular settlement of Valle Verde, located just meters from José López Portillo Avenue. The event occurred around 2 p.m. when an officer forgot the keys inside the official patrol car, leaving the unit completely blocked and obstructing the roadway.
According to testimonies from neighbors who witnessed the scene, the police officers exited the unit to conduct a check on a pedestrian. However, upon closing the vehicle doors, the locks activated automatically, leaving the keys inside and the patrol car immobilized.
Patrol Car Blocks Access to Neighborhood
As often happens in these types of operations, the police unit was poorly parked, completely obstructing the main access to Valle Verde neighborhood. This created a long line of vehicles and frustration among residents, who could neither enter nor exit the area.
Faced with the situation, the officers were forced to request assistance from a locksmith, who worked for several minutes to open the patrol car and allow it to be removed from the location, finally restoring traffic flow.
At this time, it is unknown whether the person being checked was detained or if it was merely a routine inspection. Witnesses indicated that after realizing the problem they had caused, the police officers seemed more concerned with opening the official truck than with continuing the operation.
