Cancún, Mexico — Police detained eight people after responding to reports of gunfire at a private party in Cancún’s Supermanzana 313 neighborhood early Sunday morning.
Authorities received multiple emergency calls about gunshots near Prolongación La Luna Avenue, where a property was allegedly operating as a private event venue. The incident alarmed residents in the surrounding residential area.
Upon arrival, officers found a group of eight men and women at the scene. Police took all individuals into custody and transported them to the Public Security Department for processing and to determine their involvement in the reported gunfire.
Initial investigations indicate the detainees were attending a celebration that continued into Sunday morning. Authorities believe excessive alcohol consumption reignited personal conflicts among some attendees, leading to a physical altercation. During the dispute, firearms were allegedly discharged into the air, prompting the emergency calls.
As part of standard procedure, police also seized several cars and motorcycles parked at the property. The vehicles were towed to police impound lots to verify their legal status, check for theft reports, and determine if any were connected to previous illegal activities.
Investigations remain ongoing to determine the origin of the firearms used and to establish the legal status of the eight detainees. Authorities have increased patrols in the area to restore calm for residents while they investigate whether the establishment had proper permits to operate as an event center.
