Cancún, Quintana Roo — Playa Tortugas will get a new pedestrian crossing under a project worth close to 7 million pesos, Ricardo Archundia, operations director of the Institute of Tourist Infrastructure of Quintana Roo, announced. The upgrade is intended to slow vehicle traffic and improve safety for people walking through that stretch of the Hotel Zone.
Archundia said the site was chosen because of the heavy daily flow of tourists and residents through the area. Construction will begin in the coming days, although the start date depends on whether weather conditions improve after recent rains.
The official said the design uses prefabricated components that will be moved into place with specialized machinery, a method that will speed up installation of the crossing.
The institute is also weighing work on other sections of the boulevard. At Plaza La Isla, crews will hold off until the interchange connecting to the Nichupté Bridge is finished, so as not to cause further disruptions to traffic.
