Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The city of Playa del Carmen has been designated as the host for the First National Firefighters Congress, scheduled to take place from October 27 to October 31. The event is part of the strategy and commitment of the municipal government led by Mayor Estefanía Mercado, which is oriented toward strengthening security and protecting the lives of local families through the ongoing training and updating of emergency services.
The congress, organized by the Secretariat of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention, and Firefighters, under the direction of Secretary Darwin Covarrubias, will bring together national and international specialists with the goal of strengthening the preparation and response capabilities of emergency corps.
Over the five days, the event will feature keynote conferences and practical workshops simulating real-life scenarios. These simulations will include aquatic rescues, vehicle rescues, structural fires, and more. The congress is aimed at firefighters, paramedics, police officers, and other emergency services professionals.
The list of exhibitors will include specialists from Colombia and Chile, as well as from San Diego and Los Angeles in the United States. Domestic participants will include experts from Baja California (Tijuana) and Sinaloa, with additional attendance from emergency corps from Jalisco, Pachuca, Puebla, Campeche, Yucatán, and Chiapas.
“We are a new Civil Protection, reflecting Mayor Estefanía Mercado's vision of strengthening security through training. Our purpose is to ensure that every firefighter, operative, paramedic, and police officer is well-prepared to face emergencies and protect the citizenry,” emphasized Secretary Darwin Covarrubias.
This First National Firefighters Congress is the first of its kind in the entire peninsula. It constitutes a unique opportunity for learning and collaboration, solidifying Playa del Carmen's status as a national reference point for professionalization and training in civil protection and emergency response.
