Playa del Carmen, MX — The ranching sector of Playa del Carmen has resolved its differences with the City Council following a meeting with Municipal President Estefanía Mercado, according to Antón Bojórquez, Secretary of Economic Development and Investment Attraction.
The official explained that the meeting took place after members of the Playa del Carmen Ranchers Association expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of support, a situation that was on the verge of escalating into a public protest complete with their animals.
Bojórquez detailed that agreements were reached during the meeting to strengthen local production and open commercial channels with the tourism sector. "Once the first contact happens between producers and the end buyer, we can talk about a more solid local supply chain," stated the secretary.

He acknowledged that although local ranchers are already operating at maximum capacity, their production still does not meet the demand of the large hotel chains; however, he emphasized that what is available can be successfully placed in the market.
As an example, he mentioned quail, a product for which Playa del Carmen has one of the main producers at a national level, in addition to the production of honey, pitahaya, eggs, and chicken.
Regarding delivery logistics, he explained that it will depend on the agreements between ranchers and hoteliers, though he highlighted that Grupo Xcaret requested that products be delivered directly to the corresponding economic unit, as the consortium does not have an internal distribution center.
"If the product is for the Xcaret hotel, it must be delivered directly there; the same in the case of their parks, where suppliers must take it to the corresponding site," Bojórquez specified.
