Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A top city official has denied rumors that the Mario Villanueva Madrid Stadium is being privatized in exchange for financial compensation.
Luis Herrera Quiam, the general secretary of Playa del Carmen’s municipal government, clarified through social media that the facility will continue to be used primarily by high-performance athletes, children, teenagers, and disabled athletes who train at various municipal sports schools and the city’s Sports Institute training center.
Herrera Quiam explained that restricting access during certain hours aims to provide better training conditions by reducing accident risks and allowing more efficient use of the sports facilities.
The official emphasized that the stadium will not be closed to the public, noting that general access will be available starting at 7:00 p.m. daily.
With this clarification, Herrera Quiam sought to dispel speculation about the supposed privatization of the sports venue and reiterated that the goal is to prioritize athletic development and safety for those using the facilities for training.
