Cancún, Quintana Roo — Playa del Carmen Mayor Estefanía Mercado has introduced Padre Sol, an organic honey produced by local beekeepers, as part of an initiative to promote regional identity and sustainable economic development. The product was unveiled during a community gathering that brought together producers, environmentalists, and tourism representatives.
A Symbol of Unity and Tradition
Mayor Mercado emphasized the project’s significance, stating, “With prosperity for all, we are turning Playa del Carmen into one land, one people.” She added, “It is an honor to present Padre Sol honey, a product made by Playa del Carmen residents. The heart of this city is its people. That’s why shifting from ‘All-Inclusive’ to ‘All-Included’ means supporting local products, valuing our traditions, and showcasing what makes us unique.”
The honey, derived from native Melipona bees, represents both ancestral beekeeping practices and modern sustainability efforts. Mercado described it as “a bridge between the past and the future,” noting that it “embodies the sweetness of our roots and the strength of our collective vision.”
Economic and Environmental Impact
The launch event highlighted the role of beekeeping in fostering a circular economy and ecological conservation. Padre Sol is not merely a commercial product but a cultural narrative—each jar reflects generations of community stewardship over the region’s bee populations.
Mayor Mercado reiterated that development should not come at the expense of cultural identity or the environment. The initiative demonstrates how public policy can align with grassroots efforts to generate economic, environmental, and symbolic benefits.
The presentation included participation from local stakeholders, reinforcing the project’s collaborative approach. No additional details on production volume or distribution plans were disclosed.
