Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The municipal government led by Mayor Estefanía Mercado reaffirmed its commitment to boosting the local economy and strengthening the artisan sector by supporting the launch of the “Hecho en Playa” brand, in coordination with Fundación Genera and Fundación Cancún Center.

Representing Mayor Estefanía Mercado, Daniel Bellami García, director of Work and Employment Promotion at the Secretariat of Economic Development and Investment Attraction, emphasized the importance of forming strategic alliances with the private sector to open new development opportunities for artisans in Quintana Roo.

The event, held in the Leona Vicario Hall of the new Municipal Palace, aimed to identify collaboration opportunities between the “Hecho en Playa” brand, its participants, Fundación Genera, and Fundación Cancún Center, focusing on the economic prosperity of artisans through the presentation of each party’s intervention models.

It also advanced the consolidation of a direct supply network based on fair trade principles, facilitating connections between local producers and strategic allies.

Participants included María José Tejero, Impact Evaluation Coordinator at Fundación Genera, and Cristina Inurreta, Manager of Fundación Cancún Center, who agreed on the importance of strengthening local production chains with a social focus.

Artisans presented their products, sharing the origin of their pieces along with the history, identity, and cultural value behind each technique, creating a space for direct dialogue with potential allies.
