Playa del Carmen Launches ‘Carril Rosa’ Program for Women with Lymphedema

Playa del Carmen Mayor Estefanía Mercado announcing the Carril Rosa program at the Riviera Maya Sports Complex

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Mayor Estefanía Mercado announced the launch of the “Carril Rosa” program at the Olympic pool in the Riviera Maya Sports Complex, an initiative focused on providing specialized care for women with lymphedema, prioritizing those in vulnerable situations.

During the announcement, the mayor emphasized that this project represents a significant advance in public health with a gender perspective, offering aquatic rehabilitation therapies that contribute to the physical and emotional recovery of women facing or having faced breast cancer.

The program involves using municipal sports infrastructure to develop specialized treatments, coordinated by the Municipal Sports Institute, with trained personnel and in an environment suitable for the comprehensive care of beneficiaries.

Furthermore, the mayor acknowledged the inter-institutional collaboration that made this strategy possible, with participation from the municipal DIF (Integrated Family Development), the Women’s Institute, and the Mexican Association of Businesswomen (AMEXME), combining efforts in favor of community well-being.

“Carril Rosa” aims not only to improve women’s physical health but also to strengthen their quality of life through equitable access to rehabilitation services, promoting social inclusion and institutional support.
