Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The Playa del Carmen Jazz Fest 2025 will host its second edition from September 15 to October 5, featuring a diverse lineup of concerts, artistic workshops, film screenings, talks, and community activities. Organized by Explayarte Asociación Civil, the festival aims to strengthen the cultural offerings of Playa del Carmen and Quintana Roo while introducing jazz to new audiences.
A Showcase of National and International Talent
The festival’s main events will take place at the Teatro de la Ciudad, where traditional concerts will be held on October 3, 4, and 5. Headlining artists include Joan Chamorro, the Big Band Jazz de Cancún, the Big Band Juvenil of Explayarte University, the Diego Maroto Cuarteto featuring Luri Molina, Pancho Lelo de Larrea, and Juan Ale Sáenz, as well as the Obed Orozco Trío with Rodrigo López and Ieoushua Barragán. The closing performances will be led by singer Karen Souza, interpreter Zoar Miranda, and the Explayarte Jazz Ensamble.
Silent Concerts Return for Immersive Experience
Prior to the main concerts, the festival will host Silent Concerts on September 27 and 28, where audiences listen to live music through high-fidelity headphones for an immersive, interference-free experience. This year’s edition features MEEN GREEN from Mérida and the local Playa del Carmen group OASIS JAZZ COLLECTIVE.
Educational and Community Programs
The festival includes an extensive artistic and community-focused program. Joan Chamorro, creator of Spain’s renowned Método Chamorro, will lead a Pedagogical Music Workshop supported by Ibermúsicas, with scholarships available for active educators. Additional workshops cover jazz for beginners, improvisation, and basic music theory. Master classes will be taught by musicians such as Diego Maroto, Pancho Lelo de Larrea, Luri Molina, Juan Ale Sáenz, Arturo Báez, Rodrigo López, Hugo Gutiérrez, and Bernardo Ron.
Public talks will feature industry insights, including a virtual session with RAULIO on the music business and roundtable discussions on jazz in Mexico and Latin America. Most educational activities and talks are free, with only Chamorro’s workshop requiring a nominal fee (scholarships available).
Commitment to Accessibility and Inclusion
Explayarte A.C. will distribute free tickets to local youth organizations, ensuring broader access to the festival’s main concerts. The initiative reflects the festival’s mission to promote cultural inclusion and artistic development in the community.
