Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Remembering Benito Juárez is an act of conscience and a call to continue building a just, equitable nation with historical memory, stated Guillermo Brahms González, the city’s chief administrative officer, during a ceremony marking the 152nd anniversary of the death of the "Benemérito de las Américas" (Illustrious Benemeritus of the Americas).

The civic event, held at Plaza 28 de Julio, emphasized Juárez’s enduring relevance. Brahms González underscored that Juárez’s legacy transcends history, remaining alive in every government action that prioritizes the people.

"Today, from Playa del Carmen, we remember him as the great reformer who taught us that public power only has meaning when it serves the common good; that the law must serve the people, not the interests of a few; and that education, justice, and freedom are not privileges but rights for all," he said, speaking on behalf of Mayor Estefanía Mercado.

A Legacy of Justice and Reform

In front of representatives from various Masonic lodges, Brahms González highlighted Juárez’s embodiment of "effort, honesty, and conviction for a fairer country." He reflected on Juárez’s journey—from the mountains of Oaxaca to the presidency—without ever abandoning his Indigenous roots or his reformist vision.

The official reaffirmed that Playa del Carmen’s municipal government, led by Mayor Mercado, upholds Juárez’s example through policies prioritizing social justice, legality, sovereignty, and respect for human rights.

Masonic Tribute to a National Hero

Alejandro Calderón, Venerable Master of the Respetable Logia Simbólica Re-Evolución Masónica No. 31, noted that Juárez was not only a political reformer but also a Mason who saw national transformation as a collective effort rooted in liberty, justice, and fraternity.

Calderón thanked Mayor Mercado for her social awareness and commitment to inclusive development.

The ceremony was attended by municipal officials, council members, and Masonic leaders, including Eli Uriel Medrano, Grand Master of the Gran Logia del Estado "Andrés Quintana Roo," as well as representatives from other local lodges.
