Playa del Carmen Celebrates Citizen Watchers at Christmas Posada

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — In an atmosphere of fellowship, gratitude, and Christmas spirit, the Municipal Government of Playa del Carmen held the traditional Christmas posada in honor of the Citizen Watchers, recognizing their commitment, vocation for service, and valuable contribution to community well-being and safety.

Representing Mayor Estefanía Mercado, Eduardo Asencio, honorary president of the Playa del Carmen DIF System, attended and conveyed the mayor’s recognition and gratitude to the program’s members, highlighting their fundamental role in strengthening citizen vigilance, neighborhood coexistence, and the care of the municipality’s girls and boys.

During his message, Eduardo Asencio emphasized the special significance of this gathering, which brought together 198 older adult women and men who are part of the Citizen Watchers program, whom he recognized as examples of social participation, civic responsibility, and deep love for Playa del Carmen.

He also highlighted the importance of continuing to promote actions that strengthen the social fabric, encourage citizen participation, and recognize the experience, commitment, and contribution of older adults in building safer and more supportive communities.

Present at the event were Deyanira Martínez, Secretary of Social Justice and Citizen Participation; Carlos Montesinos, Secretary of Citizen Security; Diego Almícar, Director of Social Proximity; Aureny Martín, Director of Municipal Transit; Félix Teh, Director of Education and Libraries; and Gabriel Álvarez, Director of the Youth Institute, who accompanied the Citizen Watchers in this year-end celebration.

Within this framework, the leadership of Mayor Estefanía Mercado was highlighted, whose government promotes a policy of closeness with citizens, strengthening social participation and promoting actions focused on inclusion, community coexistence, and the well-being of Playa del Carmen families.
