Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The Civil Protection, Risk Prevention, and Fire Department of Playa del Carmen has expanded its educational outreach to 15 elementary and secondary schools, training approximately 2,500 children and teenagers in safety and prevention measures.

The initiative is part of a broader prevention strategy promoted by Mayor Estefanía Mercado’s administration, aimed at fostering a culture of self-protection and early awareness among youth. Through workshops and talks, officials focused on building a more prepared, conscious, and resilient society aligned with international risk management standards.

Civil Protection Secretary Darwin Covarrubias emphasized that these efforts represent a permanent prevention policy with direct community engagement. “The goal is to construct a society that is more prepared, aware, and resilient, in line with international standards for risk management,” Covarrubias said.

During the program, firefighters, paramedics, and operational staff visited schools with equipment from their respective areas to demonstrate their work and the importance of prompt emergency response. The department also conducted a preventive visit to Rafael Kantun Chi Elementary School as part of its ground-level outreach to bring civil protection services closer to the school community.
