Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Local officials crowned the kings and queens of the Playa del Carmen Carnival 2026 on Tuesday night, officially launching one of the region’s most anticipated celebrations with music, color, and tradition for residents and tourists alike.

Representing Mayor Estefanía Mercado, Chief Administrative Officer Guillermo Brahms González, accompanied by Municipal DIF Honorary President Eduardo Asencio Martínez, led the coronation ceremony at the Plaza 28 de Julio Amphitheater. He conveyed the mayor’s message encouraging families to enjoy the festivities with joy and good cheer.

“The Playa del Carmen Carnival is the most beautiful in the Mexican Caribbean and the epicenter of major events in the southeast,” Brahms said, highlighting the inclusive and family-friendly nature of the event designed for people of all ages.

On behalf of the mayor, he reiterated the invitation for citizens to “experience this community celebration with enthusiasm, dance, and unity.”

Among the crowned sovereigns were Queen Daniela Zazil Ortega Pérez and King Osmal Rafael Estrada Aguayo, along with representatives from categories including Children, Youth, Senior Citizens, Inclusion, Teaching, Diversity, Let’s Playa, and Joy, reflecting the plural and inclusive spirit that distinguishes the celebration.

From February 14 to 17, the Carnival will feature a high-impact artistic lineup with performers such as Bellakath, Santa Fe Klan, and NSQK, plus the 90’s Pop Tour show, which will bring together JNS, Kabah, Ari, M’Balia, Kalimba, Magneto, Erik Rubín, Mercurio, Caló, and The Sacados, solidifying Playa del Carmen as the epicenter of major events in the Mexican Caribbean.

The program also includes parades with floats, competitions for troupes and costumes, and performances by local artists.

Before the coronation, the audience enjoyed sets by urban singers Young Marco and Gío Patrón, who preceded the farewell of the 2025 Carnival sovereigns.

The first day of activities closed with a performance by the group “Piña y su Skandalo Musical,” which got attendees dancing.

Also present at the event were Luis Herrera, the municipal secretary general; Councilor Matilde Carrillo; Deyanira Martínez, general director of the Municipal DIF; and Arturo Castro, chief of staff and general coordinator of the Carnival.
