Playa del Carmen Carnival 2026 Kicks Off with Royal Coronation and Concert Lineup

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Playa del Carmen Carnival 2026 officially began on Friday with the coronation of its king and queen at the Plaza 28 de Julio amphitheater, launching four days of concerts, parades, and cultural events.

Daniela Zazil Ortega Pérez and Osmal Rafael Estrada Aguayo received their crowns as the main Carnival sovereigns before hundreds of families gathered in the city center. Officials also crowned representatives from categories including Children, Youth, Senior Citizens, Inclusion, Teachers, Diversity, Let’s Playa, and Joy, reflecting the celebration’s broad community focus.

Guillermo Brahms González, the city’s chief administrative officer, led the ceremony and emphasized the event’s inclusive, family-friendly nature. “The Playa del Carmen Carnival is the most beautiful in the Mexican Caribbean and the epicenter of major events in the southeast,” he said, encouraging residents to enjoy the festivities with enthusiasm and respect.

Before the formal ceremony, urban singers Young Marco and Gío Patrón performed to energize the crowd. The group Piña y su Skandalo Musical closed the first night with several hours of dancing.

The Carnival program from February 14 to 17 features a concert lineup including Bellakath, Santa Fe Klan, and NSQK, plus the 90’s Pop Tour show with artists like JNS, Kabah, Ari, M’Balia, Kalimba, Magneto, Erik Rubín, Mercurio, Caló, and The Sacados. All concerts will take place at Plaza 28 de Julio.

Parallel events include parades with floats along main avenues, costume and comparsa competitions, and local talent showcases, strengthening community identity in Playa del Carmen.
