Playa del Carmen Businesses Prepare for Legal and Fiscal Changes in 2026

Business leaders discuss legal and fiscal changes at a meeting in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Businesses in Playa del Carmen are preparing for a series of legal and fiscal changes set for 2026, analyzing how new laws and taxes will impact their operations and budgets.

The president of the local chapter of the Mexican Association of Businesswomen (AMEXME), Valeria Rindertsma, said companies in the tourist destination are closely monitoring regulatory shifts that will affect their financial planning and fiscal management next year.

“All the modifications to the laws, like the 40-hour workweek, involve significant adaptations; it’s not just the increase in the minimum wage, but also higher IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute) contributions and other costs that must be considered in the annual budget,” she explained.

Rindertsma noted that reducing the workweek represents a transition process that will not happen immediately, making dialogue between authorities and the business sector key to an orderly implementation.

She emphasized the importance of staying informed and adapting continuously to legal changes that directly impact company operations.

Regarding the economic outlook, Rindertsma highlighted positive expectations in tourism, following strong occupancy levels in December. She added that promotional actions at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) are expected to have a favorable impact, provided they receive proper follow-up.

Finally, she affirmed that the business sector will continue working in a coordinated manner to face next year’s challenges, without losing sight of the growth opportunities the destination offers.
