Tulum, Quintana Roo — PGA Riviera Maya is making waves in the golf world by becoming the first course in Mexico’s Caribbean region to adopt cutting-edge smart ball technology. Located within the prestigious Tulum Country Club, the golf course has implemented the GS3 smart ball—a new tool that brings real-time agronomic data to course management.
At first glance, the GS3 looks like a standard golf ball. But beneath its surface, the ball houses internal sensors that collect vital information about green performance. This includes data on rolling speed, surface firmness, and smoothness—key factors in delivering a top-tier playing experience.

The data gathered by the GS3 is instantly transmitted via Bluetooth to DEACON, a digital agronomy platform that integrates course maintenance records and weather conditions. This provides a comprehensive and precise picture of green health, enabling course managers to make evidence-based decisions.
“The GS3 allows us to offer a more consistent, objective, and measurable experience for players,” said Sergio González, Director of PGA Riviera Maya. “Maintaining optimal green conditions is a top priority, and this technology puts us on par with the world’s best courses.”
González emphasized that the smart ball isn’t just about collecting numbers—it’s about refining performance and elevating the player’s experience. “These are objective, repeatable measurements that improve our understanding of green behavior. It moves us away from guesswork and into data-driven course management.”
This investment further cements PGA Riviera Maya’s reputation as one of the most challenging and technically sophisticated courses in Latin America. Already recognized for its design and maintenance standards, the course is part of a broader vision at Tulum Country Club to blend innovation, sport, and high-quality living into one seamless community.
With this move, PGA Riviera Maya continues to lead the way in modern golf course management—bringing technology and tradition together to improve every round.
