Isla Mujeres, Mexico — A person was fatally shot just meters from their family in the continental zone of Isla Mujeres. The victim was reportedly at the entrance of a residence when they were struck by gunfire, injuries which proved fatal.
The execution occurred in the Jerusalén neighborhood on Thursday night. According to information provided by authorities, witnesses stated that two unknown individuals on a motorcycle arrived at the scene. The driver stopped momentarily while the passenger fired multiple shots, after which they accelerated away toward the end of the continental zone.
It appears the victim was at the entrance of the property when they received the impacts from the firearm, which instantly took their life. The victim's body came to rest inside the domicile.
The family called the 911 emergency number, but by the time paramedics arrived to provide assistance, they could only confirm the death.
Authorities from Cancún and Isla Mujeres are conducting an operation in the vicinity in search of those responsible. Personnel from the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) are en route to initiate the corresponding investigation file.
The arrival of Servicios Periciales is also expected. After processing the area, they will lift the body and transport it to the facilities of the Servicio Médico Forense (SEMEFO).
