Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The operating hours of the Colosio and Riviera Maya sports facilities will be partially restricted in the mornings for the general public due to the launch of the summer program Baaxlo'ob Paalalo'ob for children.

Alberto López Castro, Director of the Playa del Carmen Sports Institute, requested public understanding, emphasizing that the restrictions are temporary and will last two weeks. The program will accommodate 400 children from various neighborhoods, subdivisions, and communities in the municipality. Afternoons, starting at 1 p.m., will operate as usual across all areas.

"From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., the summer program will take place, but after 1 p.m., the facilities will remain open. There will be no closures—everything continues as normal, and sports activities will proceed without interruption," clarified López Castro.

The Colosio sports facility is located in the Luis Donaldo Colosio Murrieta neighborhood, while the Riviera Maya facility is near the university district in Paseos del Mayab. The latter is one of the most comprehensive sports centers in Playa del Carmen, featuring a semi-Olympic swimming pool that has produced national youth swimming champions representing the state and municipality.

Program Details and Public Access

The Baaxlo'ob Paalalo'ob summer program will utilize areas such as the semi-Olympic pool, which will be closed to the general public during the designated hours. Qualified instructors will conduct workshops for participating children, though certain areas, such as running tracks, will remain accessible.

The Playa del Carmen government has prioritized physical activity as a key strategy for promoting health and preventing addiction. López Castro confirmed that the Sports Institute’s entire logistical team—approximately 50 qualified personnel—will be involved in the program.

Residents were encouraged to follow the institute’s social media channels for updates on future courses and workshops.
