7,000 Officers Secure Quintana Roo for Summer 2025

Cancún, Quintana Roo — To ensure safety, protection, and social peace during the summer vacation period for residents and the more than 2 million tourists projected to visit Quintana Roo, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, alongside heads of security agencies, federal forces, and civil protection units, officially launched the 2025 Quintana Roo Summer Vacation Security Operation.

Comprehensive Security Deployment

Governor Lezama explained that over 7,000 personnel have been deployed across the state to maintain order during the vacation period. The operation includes 5,560 officers from the State Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) and 1,452 personnel from the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), and the National Guard.

"This Summer Operation is part of the New Agreement for Well-being and Development in Quintana Roo, which promotes citizen responsibility, trust in institutions, and the rebuilding of social fabric. To the families of Quintana Roo, I say with conviction: your government is here, your people are here, your state is here," stated Governor Lezama, accompanied by Verónica Lezama Espinosa, President of the DIF-Quintana Roo System.

The operation, which began on July 16 and will run through September 1, covers the entire state—from Chetumal to Holbox and from Mahahual to Cozumel. Officers will conduct preventive patrols, traffic checkpoints, and monitoring via the C5 surveillance system. Security forces will be stationed at beaches, hotel zones, nightlife areas, highways, restaurants, and other high-traffic locations.

Transparency and Accountability

Governor Lezama emphasized that tourism drives economic growth but also requires ensuring development translates into shared prosperity. She reiterated a zero-tolerance policy for abuses, illegal fees, or practices that harm individuals.

"To our tourism service providers, I reiterate: you are the best ambassadors of our state. Your conduct, ethics, and commitment will make the difference," she stressed.

Julio César Gómez Torres, Secretary of Citizen Security, detailed the surveillance plan, noting that this year, personnel from the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office Internal Affairs Units will join the operation to ensure transparency in police conduct.

Breakdown of Security Forces

The operation includes:

  • 463 SEDENA personnel
  • 738 National Guard officers, strategically positioned at highways, airports, coastal zones, and tourist hubs
  • 251 SEMAR personnel
  • 5,560 SSC officers, including 1,314 state police, 8 K-9 units, 194 ground vehicles, 25 motorcycles, 14 all-terrain vehicles, a tow truck, and a helicopter
  • 4,246 municipal police officers, with 491 ground units, 170 motorcycles, 20 Razer-type vehicles, 31 ATVs, 2 tow trucks, a drone, and a helicopter
  • 200 Tourism Police officers
  • 634 personnel from the State Civil Protection Coordination and municipal fire and lifeguard units

Call for Public Responsibility

Ana Paty Peralta de la Peña, Municipal President of Benito Juárez, urged residents and visitors to act responsibly, respect public spaces, and follow authorities' recommendations to ensure safe returns home or to workplaces.

The operation reflects unprecedented coordination among federal, state, and municipal authorities. Governor Lezama acknowledged the support of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, who has demonstrated "affection for Quintana Roo through actions."
