Quintana Roo Schools Start 22-Day Winter Vacation

Students leaving school for winter vacation in Quintana Roo

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Starting this Friday, December 19, a total of 368,000 students across all educational levels have left their classrooms as the winter vacation period begins.

The return to classes has been scheduled for Monday, January 12, 2026, meaning the vacation will last for 22 days.

The head of the Quintana Roo Secretariat of Education (SEQ), Elda Xix Euán, stated that students will be away from school facilities for three weeks, according to the Official School Calendar 2025-2026.

Along with students, more than 22,000 teachers in the state will also have vacation, as well as administrative and educational support staff.

As part of the actions for this period, committees have been activated in the 2,367 schools, which will operate with the collaboration of parents, teachers, and even neighbors to prevent theft and vandalism in educational centers.

Elda Xix emphasized that it is necessary to maintain active security and surveillance operations with the support of public order forces and federal corporations, because when schools are left empty, those with ill intentions become interested in them.

For this reason, the Secretary of Education requested the collaboration of citizens, particularly neighbors of school facilities, to report any irregularities or suspicious acts that could threaten educational infrastructure.
