Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has announced a significant investment of more than 3.5 million pesos to rehabilitate a student hostel in Chetumal. The hostel, which is part of the Quintanarroense Youth Institute, has been abandoned for over a decade. It currently houses approximately 120 students from rural communities who have moved to the capital to pursue their studies.

Governor Espinosa revealed that the rehabilitation work has already begun. The project aims to transform various common areas within the hostel, including the dining room, computer room, laundry area, bathrooms, and kitchen. The main fence and the entire external electrical network will also be completely renovated.

In addition to these infrastructure improvements, the kitchen will be equipped with new appliances, including an industrial stove with a hood, a freezer, refrigerators, and an industrial blender. The goal is to provide high-quality services to the students, who are able to eat and stay at the hostel free of charge.

To further support the students in their studies, the hostel will also be provided with eight desktop computers, ten picnic tables, five washing machines, and three washbasins.

Governor Espinosa emphasized the importance of this project, stating, "This is what shared prosperity is all about: dignifying the stay of each student who comes to the Chetumal student hostel. These are the results of fighting corruption, the money goes further and reaches where it's most needed, reducing inequality gaps so that no one is left out or left behind."
