Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — An image of the Virgin of Guadalupe was found mutilated and headless at the entrance to Playa 72, on Quinta Avenida in the Luis Donaldo Colosio Murrieta neighborhood of Playa del Carmen.
According to information, the figure, installed by pilgrims on December 12, 2024, had remained as a symbol of faith for residents and visitors from various countries.
However, this discovery was considered serious and labeled as a “sacrilege” by the local community, which laments this type of act that damages not only a religious object but also the devotion of those who come to that spot to pray.
According to residents of the area, they reported it to municipal authorities to investigate the incident, which they consider a lack of respect. They hope that through surveillance cameras they can identify those responsible.
