Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Images circulating on social media have sparked outrage after showing several sea turtle hatchlings apparently dead, lying in the sun inside a protected enclosure.
The photos, posted by a foreign resident, show the hatchlings motionless on the sand. “They let them all die, they left them in the sun. There’s a little shade now, but they’re already dead,” the complainant wrote.
The images have triggered a wave of reactions online, with users demanding explanations and calling for sanctions if the deaths are confirmed.
Environmental authorities are expected to issue an official statement in the coming hours, either to deny or confirm the incident, and if confirmed, to announce the start of an investigation to determine responsibility.
