9 Arrested After Deadly Isla Mujeres Shootout

Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The Attorney General’s Office of Quintana Roo has initiated an investigation and confirmed the arrest of nine individuals—eight men and one woman—following an armed confrontation in Isla Mujeres on the night of May 27. The incident, involving state and municipal police, resulted in the aggravated homicide of two unidentified individuals and an attempted homicide of another, who is currently receiving medical treatment.

Details of the Arrests

At the time of their detention, authorities seized substances resembling narcotics, multiple firearms (both long and short-barreled), and loaded magazines from the suspects. The detained individuals, identified as Diego Nathanael “N,” Francisco Emilio “N,” Luis Alberto “N,” César “N,” María del Mar “N,” Joel Diosmany “N,” Pedro Irán “N,” Joaquín de Jesús “N,” and Efrén Ihuit “N,” were handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Possible Criminal Dispute

According to police sources, the armed clash may be linked to a dispute between criminal groups vying for control of drug sales in the island region.

The Attorney General’s Office of Quintana Roo stated in a social media post:

"#FGEQuintanaRoo is investigating nine individuals for aggravated homicide, attempted homicide, drug dealing, and firearm possession in Isla Mujeres. #ZeroImpunity #JusticeForAll."

The case remains under investigation as authorities work to determine further details surrounding the violent incident.
