TULUM — The environmental community in Tulum expressed outrage following the discovery of newborn sea turtles that were run over inside the Jaguar Park, a natural area under the guardianship of the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP).

According to environmental groups, this incident highlights the absence of effective supervision in a space designated for the conservation of biodiversity.

Images circulated on social media showing tire tracks in the sand and the lifeless bodies of the hatchlings, which sparked criticism towards the park's administration for allowing vehicle circulation in a zone that should be restricted.

Environmental collectives stated that although the management plan establishes clear guidelines to protect the species inhabiting the area, in practice these measures are not fully complied with.

Local organizations emphasized that the protection of wildlife cannot be limited to official statements, but requires permanent surveillance and control actions. The death of these newborn turtles, they said, reflects the consequences of the lack of enforcement of environmental regulations.

The case has raised questions about how the Jaguar Park is managed and the effectiveness of the conservation measures implemented thus far. Environmentalists and citizens are demanding an investigation into the facts and that protection mechanisms be reinforced to prevent similar situations from recurring in the future.
