Two companies are seeking state environmental permits to construct a Chedraui commercial complex in northern Mérida and a Bodega Aurrerá supermarket in eastern Valladolid. This information comes from the Secretary of Sustainable Development (SDS) of Yucatán.
The SDS has announced in the Official State Gazette of Yucatán that it is holding public consultations for these projects before issuing the environmental permits. The public can review the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for each project at the SDS office in Mérida. The public is invited to suggest additional prevention or mitigation measures and provide feedback. Each consultation period lasts five working days. The Valladolid consultation began on Wednesday, August 21, and the Mérida consultation started on Thursday, August 22.
According to the GeoPortal of the Municipality of Mérida, the proposed commercial site has a cadastral value of $244,182,125. The residential areas are valued at $23,979,456.10 and $238,384,156.
The company, Crucero Chedraui, plans to develop a "low impact grocery store, commercial premises, and department store" on a section of the three premises in the Revolución neighborhood in Mérida. This site is currently occupied by the Chedraui Selecto supermarket.
Meanwhile, the company El Ganso Abarrotero has applied for permission to build the Bodega Aurrerá Quinta Nicté supermarket in Valladolid. This would be the second Bodega Aurrerá in Valladolid, with detailed construction plans already in place.
These public consultations and environmental permits are necessary steps that both companies must complete before they can proceed with their respective construction projects in Mérida and Valladolid.
